The Path to Military Dictatorship

While Americans were fighting tooth and nail with all their might to stop the passing of the government takeover of our health care, it seems that McCain and Lieberman were up to putting their own little notch in their belt for tyranny.

What exactly is wrong with our government representatives? Do their brains function at all?

May I present exhibit A:

S.3081 - Enemy Belligerent, Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010
"A bill to provide for the interrogation and detention of enemy belligerents who commit hostile acts against the United States, to establish certain limitations on the prosecution of such belligerents for such acts, and for other purposes."

You can read the bill here.

Now, luckily, this bill hasn't passed yet, but if they do, this will buy us a one way ticket to a military dictatorship.

The bill is another power grab for the president. As commander in chief, he will have the sole authority to order anyone to be arrested, interrogated, imprisoned, and authorize them to be held indefinitely, based upon the sole suspicion that the person is affiliated with terrorism. This includes US citizens.

If someone is suspicious, there should be an investigation, and then questioned by authorities if there are findings. But this clause makes me so livid and outraged, there aren't enough words to express it. It says suspects:
"may be detained without criminal charges and without trial for the duration of hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners."

Will US citizens be held in internment camps, imprisoned like they do to citizens in Cuba?

Of course, they make it seem innocent and that it is in our best interest to protect us. I am sure that is the story told to the people by all rising dictatorships.

While foreigners do not have constitutional rights, what about the constitutional rights of US citizens?

If this passes, then just based upon suspicion, you can be arrested without being charged for a crime, without evidence, and without a trial? And then be held indefinitely?

This is so frightening. The way the current administration is stomping on the constitution and treating patriotic Americans expressing their dissent to the government takeover of banks, insurance companies and now health care, what is to stop them from just arresting people that disagree with them?

Our founding fathers must be turning over in their graves. No wonder there are so many earthquakes. This is the criteria for a police state and the actions that would be taken in a military dictatorship. Yet, where is the media on this? Is anyone out there paying attention? Wake up America while you are still somewhat free, before you wake up in a detention camp.
